tiles and the home

Using tiles in the home, especially for bathrooms and kitchens, has now become so common place that many people would regard them as indispensable. In countries with a long tradition of making and using tiles such as Holland and Spain, their use around the home has helped to reflect the status of its occupants. Indeed in Spain in the 19th century:to have a house without tiles became a proverbial expression for poverty.
Industrial mass production of tiles and their improved distribution enabled the homes of all sectors of society, whether situated in a traditional tile-making area or not. to benefit from a ceramic material that could be both cheap and beautiful.
